In November 2020 the Family Solutions Group (FSG) released their landmark report “What about me?”. They highlighted many of the challenges and deficiencies in the way that separating families are currently supported and made a number of recommendations.

One key area that they addressed was the delivery of family law services and the need to find different approaches to helping families resolve their issues. Solutions that generate less long-term harm to those families.

Amongst their recommendation the FSG promoted the following approaches by legal advisers:

  • “Awareness at all times of the broader psychological issues at play, being mindful to the long-term goal of a cooperative parenting and the risk to children of parental conflict”
  • “Encouragement to parents to adopt a ‘working together to resolve issues’ approach, rather than behaving in ways which drives them apart; “
  • “Use of appropriate language at all times to diffuse conflict”
  • “Recognition that the family has multiple needs and offering multi-disciplinary support, working alongside other family professional specialists”

In response to this report FLiP Faculty and the Institute of Family Therapy joined forces to develop a range of training aimed at helping family law professionals achieve these recommendations. The result is ReFLEx training.

In developing our offering we wanted to ensure that the courses were as accessible as possible to all professionals. The mixture of pre-recorded webinars, exercises and quizzes allow you to train at your own speed and gain the most from the learning experience.

To earn the ReFLEx Certificate you will need to complete 9 of these courses. However for those interested in developing their skills further the intention is to create a range even more in depth modules that will lead to a ReFLEx Diploma

Learning from each other is also a highly valuable experience. Not very practical when studying pre-recorded webinars, so later this academic year we will be introducing the ReFLEx Community as a platform where you can discuss the training and your own experiences in these areas with your fellow delegates.

We hope that you enjoy these courses and are confident that you will gain many valuable insights that will enhance your ability to deliver outstanding support to those you work with.
